East Side is located at 3850 Roswell Road, approximately 2 miles from Princeton Corners. It serves children from Kindergarten through the 5th grade. With many activities involving the entire family, East Side Elementary provides a solid foundation for the early years of education.
East Side first opened with 314 students in the fall of 1952, when much of Cobb county was very rural. School folklore says that the principal would have to chase the cows off the playground before students could go out for recess. Today East Side has almost 1,200 students enrolled.
Funded by a 1% Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST) approved by the voters of Cobb County in a referendum held in September 2008, East Side Elementary opened its newly-build school in mid-August 2011. The new school was built on the space where the play fields were located behind the school. The previous buildings were demolished after the new facility was completed to make way for parking for the new school.
The new school is 149,892 square feet as compared to 77,918 square feet for the old school. The building now consists of three floors, with kindergarten through second grades on the lower floors, and third, fourth, and fifth grades occupying the upper floors.
Ranked as one of the best elementary schools in Georgia, East Side students continuously rank high in standardized tests.
